For some reason the end of summer is the time of the year that I start thinking about watermelons and sunflowers, and wanted to share a little history behind both of these highly favored American staples. Watermelon originated in southern Africa and is believed to have been introduced to North American Indians in the 1500's, but has been cultivated in many regions of the world as well. The sunflower originated in America and is believed to have been domesticated in Mexico; from there sunflowers were introduced to the middle Mississippi Valley region at about the same time as corn was. Sunflowers are also now cultivated worldwide.
With that said, the August Survey is now available with a sweet new pattern for you download when you complete the survey. Enjoy!
