Why You Should Be Willing To Cross The Finish Line Last

If you have your own business you probably started it for a number of reasons.

* Increase your income
* Because it's something your passionate about
* The appeal of working for yourself
* The satisfaction of accomplishments

No matter what the reasons it's very important that no matter where your business takes you that you never compromise your business values.

If you have strong ethical values in your life to begin with, don't let anything you encounter along the way tarnish those values. I'm talking about honesty, integrity, business values, and ethics.  

The business world unfortunately can be full of pitfalls, temptations to make a easy buck and even some unethical fellow business owners that can lead you a stray. It's not uncommon to find that others may not share those same ethic values that you do. If you look around you only to find other business owners willing to be dishonest, stealing from others and/or step on whomever they choose for their own personal gain, learn really fast to rise above this. Because all too often business owners, especially those that are fairly new to having their own business will feel that they too have to practice these type of tactics in order to succeed. Don't believe it! You do not under any circumstances need to ever compromise what you feel and know is right in order to succeed and don't ever let anyone tell you any different.

It can be fatal to your business reputation to get caught up in the dog eat dog world of unethical business practices. This can be anything from copying other businesses ideas to using others as stepping stones to propel ones own success. Even if you feel it won't hurt anyone along the way or think that it can't hurt your business reputation, your mistaken. It can and it will do harm in the long run and it's just not worth it.

I've seen this happen to some otherwise, very smart business owners but unfortunately either greed or their own egos allowed them to get caught up in a web of business self-destruction. Don't let this be you. Always think ahead and choose wisely when it comes to the choices you make in your business. Your customers and clients are your priority. Focus on them and never get caught up in anything that might be a questionable business practice no matter how good it may sound at the moment. Rely on your instincts and your inner compass to guide you.

Always be honest to your customers, other ethical business owners that wish to interact with you and most of all...yourself. If you choose to participate in what they call "The business rat race", be willing to keep your integrity intact, even if it means you finish the race in last place. That wouldn't happen truthfully though, but be willing to finish last if necessary and don't compromise your business values. Because at the end of the day you have to live with the choices you make and if they aren't good choices it will sabotage every good thing you try to do. I am confident that if you remain true to your business values, you will find yourself and your business far from crossing the finish line in last place.
